2022 Governor's Mansion Ornament
The Louisiana Governor’s Mansion Preservation Foundation is excited to introduce the 2022 Christmas ornament showcasing the State Dining Room in the mansion. Furnished in a French style, the room is routinely enjoyed by the first family, friends and guests. It features a fireplace that is adorned with a marble mantel and a beautiful bespoke rug by American carpet designer Edward Fields. The rug contains 64 fleurs-de-lis representing each of Louisiana’s 64 parishes and is anchored by the state seal at either end. Several furniture pieces were designed by Louisiana native and master craftsman Glen Armand, including the two large wooden silver chests. Years ago, he donated the 23-foot-long dining room table and in 2018, he donated the 36 matching chairs to complete the stately dining set. Upon the request of First Lady Donna Edwards, Armand incorporated a fleur-de-lis on the brass end caps of each chair and the state emblem to the back of the Governor’s and First Lady’s chairs. The chandelier, which is original to the house, was purchased in 1963 in Europe and assembled in New Orleans. The Foundation is proud to have contributed to maintaining and preserving this beautiful space.
